At&t CU920

« on: March 24, 2009, 06:50:24 PM »

Okay I'd Like to start off by saying I just made a simple to follow guide, FULL credit goes to SiXes and MikeDez for this hack.

Credit to SiXes for announcing his findings.
Credit to MikeDez for announcing his testing results.

This Hack allows you to bypass the 300kb ringtone file size limit for any ringtone that is assigned.  This means that whatever ringtone you have set as default on your phone can be set to a ringtone that is larger than 300kb.  I also included steps to change ringtones assigned to caller groups.  For those of you who would like to use this hack to change the ringtones you have assigned to Caller Groups you must follow the method that places the ringtone into phone memory to make things easier, instead of using step #4b you would use step #4c.

Also this has only been tested on CU920 and TU915 phones so if you own a CU915 and attempt this hack please post your results.

Okay so here are the most simple methods to doing this:

To Use Phone Memory:

1. First pick the audio file you would like to use as a ringtone. (make sure it is one of these formats: MP3, AAC Plus, WMA, AAC, EAAC+)

2. Find any audio file that is the same format as the file from step #1 and is also smaller then 300kb.
2b. Rename this file to match the audio file from step #1.

3. In EFS or BitPim navigate to /LGAPP/Media/Midis/RingTone/ and place the file from step #2 in that folder.

4. Disconnect and reboot phone.
4b. To change default ringtone go to Sound Settings>Ringtones and set the file from step #2 as your ringtone.
4c. To change Caller Group ringtone go to Address Book>Caller Groups>Select a Caller Group>Hit Options> Edit Group> Then as the ringtone select the file from step #2.

5. Reconnect your phone to EFS or BitPim and navigate back to /LGAPP/Media/Midis/RingTone/ and overwrite the file from step #2 with the file from step #1.  IMPORTANT: FILES MUST HAVE SAME EXACT NAME FOR THIS TO WORK

6. Disconnect and reboot phone.

7. Enjoy!

To Use Memory Card:

3. Connect your to EFS or connect your phone to your computer in "Mass Storage" mode.
3b. If you are using EFS /mmc1/ is your memory card.

4. Select a location you would like to place this ringtone, for example "/mmc1/Audio/" in EFS or "X:\Audio\" in mass storage mode. ("X:\" being the letter of your phones drive on computer)

5. Place the file from step #2 into the folder location you chose in step #4.

6. On your phone Navigate to the memory card location you chose in step #4 select the file and hit
Options>Set As>Ringtone

7. On your Computer go back to the folder location from step #4 and overwrite the file from step #2 with the file from step #1. IMPORTANT: FILES MUST HAVE SAME EXACT NAME FOR THIS TO WORK

8. If you used EFS for this method then disconnect and reboot phone, if you were in "Mass Storage" for this method then simply disconnect phone from computer.

9. Enjoy!

Also Jennyb79 was kind enough to make a video tutorial on the memory card method, so here you go!:

Thats an option that can be changed with your service provider. Call them and ask how many rings until voicemail are available....they will be able to help in that area.

I believe rogers won't let you change it.  Call and ask, but I've read in lots of different forums that they're pretty strict about it.  I tried changing mine through the *61 codes, but failed.
If you do call them, let us know what the result was.

oook so i gave good ol' roger a call and he said.... no ... the default is 20 sec and its for everybody... he said if there was a problem .. like it being very short then he could look in to it .. but other then that ..no luck.... while i had my good pal roger on the phone i took this opportunity to ask him another random question i had.. it was about the port on the side... because i listen to music alot i wore the end of the connector (ast pin) which he confimed that is was the grounding pin... i have been having trouble charging and listening to music due to an unsecure connection... so i asked him if it was covered .. and it is for the time that lg covers the phone .. whitch is one year from purchase date... lol just thought you guys might like to know... ill post up in a couple of weeks if i get a brand new baby or if they just repaired it ...

ok name a song anything you want, go into EFS and put in the folders they said on the first post, and then go on the phone set it as a ringtone, and then take any song you want, go into EFS and replace the first one with the one you just found and there ya go
