Recently my Vu has been shutting down on its own. And I cannot turn the phone back on unless i remove the battery and place it back in. It isnt because of low batteries or anything though. However, the only remedy i have noticed that works is to leave the phone charged the whole time, but that doesnt work when im out and about. =/ anyone else have similar problems?

Mine restarts on occasion. Maybe we have something similar? It mainly happens when the phone is really laggy (ie: When I open up Opera Mini, in the middle of a big page that's loading, I close it, or open up messaging, then it restarts maybe too much stress on the phone?)

well the thing is it just shuts down randomly. Ive actually never seen it shut down when ive been using the phone. ive just seen it off when its either in my pocket or on my table. And it doesnt restart, it just shuts down and i cant turn it back on without the battery being removed. =( i guess i will have to call in att to get it replaced. its a shame because this will be the second time that i would have to have a Vu sent in.

I am on my second VU with this exact problem.  I just read on another forum that taking the SD card out will remedy the problem.  Has anyone else heard of this?

I removed the SD memory card from my phone, and now it works perfectly.  Not sure if a diff. card will do the same thing.

Has anybody else heard of such a thing (prob. or solution)?

yeah, it happens to me like a few times. i was arguing with a friend about lyrics to some song and when i would go to this random lyric websight the scrolling would lag and it would just restart on me. im thinking it was just the websight not cooperating with what the phone wanted.

I have the exact same problem. I have my SD card in the phone for over two weeks now and it didn't act this way i.e. randomly shut down until yesterday afternoon. I called LG Customer Service and was asked to send my phone for a repair. If the root of this problem is due to the presence of card in the phone, it sucks cause I like to listen to music from card and I don't know if I will be eligible for an alternate phone but that is something I would consider Sad

Mine was malfunctioning with an SD card as well. It would just turn off/freeze while idle and I couldn't get it back.

same problem here... Lemme ask a question. I just replaced a samsung phone with my vu and used the same sim card. I just read somewhere that the firmware for that specific phone is locked in the simcard. So for the people who r having this problem, did u take the simcard from a different phone and place it into the vu or r there people who r using a new simcard having this problem as well? Just a thought.
Lemme update. I just read on another forum that this guy went through 3 phones untill he found out it was the SD card he was using. Now that i think about it, i actually tried to use the sd card in my desktops card reader and it made my computer run super slow. When i restarted my computer, it wouldnt start up while the card was int he reader. Once i pulled the card out, my computer started right up. Im begining to think that the SD card plays a big factor as to why we are having htis problem. Based on the fact that we cant use an sd card larger than 4 gigs, maybe the cards we r using exceed 4 gigs by a few megs in turn causing the issue (unlikely but cant rule that out). I bought a topram micro sd card off e-bay from the lowest price. Its quite possible that u get what u pay for with regards to the card. Maybe if i bought a kingston, sandisk or another name brand i wouldnt be posting this so if anyone is using a name brand yet still having this problem, please feel free to post ur brand. If by chance we get someone to read this thread and doesnt have this issue, please post the sd card brand ur using.

some more info that may be the culprit. Seems that the phone should be using a standard micro sd card. Upon closer looking at my card, It shows micro sd "HC". the micro sdhc cards are not so compatible as people have experienced issues tranfering certain information from the sim card onto the sdhc card. That would also explain why my (among other people) computer freezes when i insert this micro sdhc card into the card reader which obviously isnt compatible despite the fitment.
Although im sure people use micro sdhc cards in there vu and have no problems.... my assumption at this point is the brand being used (cheap vs expensive). Now the lg website specifies a standard micro sd card. They dont claim to tell you to use a micro sdhc card but then again, they dont tell u u cant. Iv done alot of reasearch so far for this particular issue were having so if anyone else has any other suggestions/comments to add?

I have gone about 2 weeks now with absolutely no problem, since I have removed the SD card.
The weird thing is, that we have the exact size (2M) and brand (Patriot) standard (not HC) card in my wife's VU with no problems.

I have Patriot also with no problems. I guess there are always lemons. Did you try using her card to verify it's not the phone?

I'll go one better than that!  While using my VU, the battery died.  I was an hour away from home and had no car charger, so I waited until i got home and plugged it into the LG wall charger.  The AT&T white screen came up and stayed for about 30 seconds, then went black for anout 2 seconds, then returned the white at&t screen.  It did this continuously until I unplugged the charger, removed the battery, and tried again, only to get the same results.  Called LG and they said to return the phone to AT&T but would not tell me what the problem was.  Saw a message here that said to push all 4 side buttons and hit the power button, so I tried that.  Got a graphic of a file folder that said emergency download.  That screen stayed there for several hours until I again turned off the damn thing by removing the battery, and when powered on, repeated the at&t screen followed by a brief blackout screen and kept recycling.  Seems to be locked in a permanent reboot mode.  Never been dropped, no mods ever done, no hacks tried, just a few pics and about 40 contacts stored.

sarge75801: Did you do any mods? Seems like your phone is in a brick mode. Contact me via personal messages and I'll see what I can do for ya.
