This will make things a hole lot faster and a lot less work when getting that
weather.txt file.

This part you only have to do once:
Run "Setup" and answer three easy questions (type them then
press enter). Then run "Get_Inject" if you have a memory card, and
if you dont have a memory card then run "Get".

NOTE:
-First few times running this might not work right because of internet
explorer's messages that need you to click yes or no.
-When you run "Get_Inject" or "Get",

DO NOT TOUCH THE MOUSE OR KEYBOARD

untill the download is done!

Once you have ran the "Get_Inject" (if you have a memory card)
and waited untill it entered the info and downloaded the
weather.txt, go back to the black window with blue text
(with the title "ThizzFace's Weather.txt Installer v3.2" and
enter your phone drive letter (from my computer).

NOTE:
You have to restart your theme after you update the weather.txt (press
battery and select your theme) or you will not see the updated weather.txt.

If something happens before your done or whatever and your computer is
controlling its self then you can click "kill" to stop the auto stuff.

Please notify me of any bugs.

Well, it is kinda cool. But it still isn't really that much different then just going to his site, downloading it directly to the phones themes folder using the cable. Now it may be easier for the people using their phone's memory. But where is the simplicity?

Method A: Go to joe earl's site, enter your city and country and choose to download the file. Either download it directly to the theme's folder using your cable, or to your desktop and using EFS to put it in.

Method B: Use your Downloader/Installer and still got to manually check the box to download it, and enter the drive letter to automatically put it in the correct spot. And you have to have a copy of the txt in your C: for it to work?

I give you props for trying to find an easier way, but IMO its still easier the old way. Maybe a way to automatically update from your phone's browser or something similar would be helpful. But either way you still have just as many steps to get a working weather.txt file. If I am missing something or if it is easier to do then how I did it, let me know.

idk clicking a file and not have to type your city and country every time seams better and you dont have to "move the weather.txt" just when you download it, you bring down the drop box and click the c drive then save.

edit: mndgme check out the new version and tell me if thats better.

You don't need to enter your city and state when you get the weather.txt file once from joe earl's site, just scroll down a little and it says upload, select the weather.txt file from your HDD on your comp and it'll auto download the updated file. So, no need for you to keep entering your city and state, just so you know.

Oh I know. But Internet Explorer or Firefox's auto fill will handle that as well. I just think going to his site, and downloading it while connected in Mass Storage Mode straight to the Theme's folder is pretty easy. I'll check out the new one you say you did though....both will work, it just varies by person.

I don't even plug my phone into my computer anymore. You can use the new Bolt Browser to download the new file, so I can just update mine on the fly anyhow.

Like I said, the only way that any of this can be done is if someone makes a Java app that will automatically download and replace your old file, then it would work. Essentially that's what you do with Bolt, except you do it manually.

I know Java, but I have no time to be messing around with this phone anymore. Besides, I'm most likely getting the HTC Evo 4G on June 4th, so there really isn't a point to my phone anymore.

honestly the easiest way to have the weather updated is if it was to pull directly from a site.  maybe have a file on the phone that contains your zip and then based off that the site would generate the data for the app.  I was thinking about that the other day.  The Vu is my wife's phone and its a pain to get it from her to update the file.  plus we live in oklahoma so its never right.  If it was to automatically pull the info it would always be current.  Just my thoughts  Smiley

You can't use URL Requesting with the Vu. You would think you're not the only one that's thought of this yes? lol.

Just a random question. I use Ubuntu and one of the programs I love is Conky. A python script was created to get data from weather.com that auto-updates the info shown in th conkyForecast window as often as you'd like.
Here's the detailed explanation, the files/scripts used, walkthough, and screenshots of it:
http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=869328

could anything similar to this be used for the weather.txt file?
