=====================================================================================

1. General
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Q1: What is the difference between the CU920, CU915 and TU915?
A1: They're all the same thing with a few very small differences. Here's a small chart to help.

    Brand   ->    AT&T      AT&T       Rogers
    Model ->     CU920     CU915       TU915
    TV ->           Yes         No           Yes
    Antenna ->    Yes         No           No

Q2: Where can I find information on the specifications/features of the Vu?
A2: You can find information on the specifications/features here: [GSM Arena] and [cnet] and [Wikipedia]
We also have a very good review by one of our members here: [Link]

Q3: How can I set a specific picture/ringtone for a contact?
A3: To do so, you need to have your contacts on your phone memory rather than on your SIM card. To copy all your contacts over, open up the menu and select contacts, then scroll down and you will see a 'Copy All Contacts'. Just copy them all onto your Handset. You can also set what contacts are viewed by choosing 'View Options' so you can display only contacts on your SIM card, only contacts on your phone, or both.

Q4: What size memory/media card can I use with the Vu?
A4: The LG Vu accepts up to and including 4Gb microSD/SDHC memory/media cards.  It does not accept anything larger than 4Gb.  All 4Gb microSD cards are considered SDHC (High Capacity), while smaller cards (512Mb, 1Gb, 2Gb) are just microSD.

Q5: Why can I not set my 4Gb microSDHC card as my camera's primary storage?
A5: With any microSD card smaller than 4Gb, you can set the camera's primary storage by initializing the camera, selecting the "Settings" cog/gear icon in the lower-right hand corner > Primary Storage > Memory Card > Save.

With the 4Gb microSDHC cards, the camera will only accept the card as primary storage if you have 2Gb of data already on the card, otherwise it defaults to "Handset" storage mode.  You must add music, videos, photos, files, etc. until your 4Gb microSDHC is at least half-full.  You may then set the Primary Storage mode for the camera to "Memory Card."

2. Modding
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Q1: How do I access my Vu's filesystem?
A1: You'll need a few things: A File Explorer, such as BitPim or EFS, the LG Vu Drivers, and a USB Cable (it should be noted that you need to make sure its a DATA Cable rather than just USB Cable).  Data cables can be purchased on eBay, amazon, and other electronics stores.  Try to avoid purchasing generic (non-LG) data cables, though, as they may not work as advertised.

Install the drivers on the PC and then just follow the instructions below:

For BitPim:

    1. Make sure you have everything listed above
    2. Hook up phone (you MUST be in data service mode)
    3. Launch BitPim
    4. BitPim should show "Other CDMA phone on COMx" (where x is the COM port being used)
    5. Choose Edit, Settings
    6. Change Phone Type to "LG-VX8700" (this is the CDMA version Shine)
    7. Click OK to close
    8. Choose View, View Filesystem
    9. Click the Filesystem icon
    10. Click the expand button beside "/"
    11. It will say "Retrieving" for a minute or two

For EFS Media Builder:

    1. Make sure you have everything listed above
    2. Hook up phone (you MUST be in data service mode)
    3. Launch EFS Media Builder
    4. Click EFS Explorer at the top
    5. A 'Select Port' window will show up, make sure 'Auto Search' is checked and 'Only U8150' isn't.
    6. Select the one which is labeled 'LGE Mobile USB Serial Port (COMx)' (x is the COM port being used)
    7. Click Connect

Q2: Hold on a second, whats BitPim and EFS Media Builder?
A2: BitPim and EFS Media Builder are both pieces of software that allow you to access your phone's file system. Just think of it like an internet browser its the same concept. To make any modifications to your phone you'll need one of these applications which you can over at the downloads thread alongside with the differences between the two here: [Link]

Q3: Can I remove the Demo Games and/or Stock Applications?
A3: Yes, you can. Instructions are here: [Link]

Q4: Can I also remove the factory pictures/ringtones/videos?
A4: Yes, you can. Instructions are here: [Link]

Q5: I always get a notification when running 3rd party applications/ I can't install 3rd party applications onto my phone. Whats wrong?
A5: You need to bypass java security. A very detailed explanation is here: [Link]

Q6: I bricked my phone/It won't start up properly, and I forgot to backup the files, where can I get the original files?
A6: You can download the entire un-modded firmware at the downloads thread here: [Link]. This 'firmware' is pretty much the 'LGAPP' folder for your respective network provider.

3. Multimedia
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Q1: Can I use custom ringtones on my phone?
A1: Yes, you can, but there are limitations. Also, the file can be placed on a memory card or in the phone memory. It doesn't require you to put it in the actual ring tone folder.

    Maximum Tone Size -> 300kB
    Ringtone Capabilities -> WMA, MIDI-0 (MIDI 1.0), AMR-WB, MP3, WAV, MIDI 2.0, Real, AMR-NB/EFR, AAC, MIDI-1 (MIDI 1.0) SMF, iMelody (non-MIDI capable devices)
    Ringtone Format -> Music, Polyphonic

Q2: What about custom message tones?
Q2: It is also possible, but requires you to put it into the actual message tone folder, also the same limitations apply onto message tones as ring tones. Instructions here: [Link]

Q3: How do I install games/applications on my Vu?
A3: If you have a memory card in your Vu, then skip to the instructions below. Otherwise you will need the LG PC Suite (which you can get here: [Link]) and you will be installing from phone memory below.

Q4: How do I create a playlist without syncing with Windows Media Player?
A4: A very detailed guide can be found here: [Link]

4. Miscellaneous
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Q1: The battery life on the Vu isn't so great, how can I improve it?
A1: The main things that will eat your battery life is the 3G and the Vibrational Feedback. You could also turn down the brightness a bit as that will help also. It is especially important to turn off 3G if your not in a 3G area because the phone will constantly search for a 3G signal, thus wasting your battery.

Q2: What is 3G and do I need it?
A2: 3G stands for third generation and is a network communication standard. The easiest way to think about 3G is to consider it the equivalent of a broadband Internet connection in your home.
Source: http://reviews.cnet.co.uk/mobiles/0,39030104,3,00.htm
In regards to the Vu, if you will be using the internet/TV, then you will want to keep 3G enabled.

Q3: Is there a way to turn off 3G/change it to a specific band?
A3: Yes, the setting is inside the Test Menu, just follow the instructions:

    1. Dial 277634#*# on the keypad to access the Test Menu
    2. Select Modem Settings
    3. Select Network Mode
    4. Select Network Mode (again)
    5. Select what bands you wish to be active
    6. Press the Clear/Back button until you return to the main screen

Q4: How do I do a factory reset?
A4: To do a factory reset, you must enter the Test Menu, the instructions are below.

    1. Dial 277634#*# on the keypad to access the Test Menu
    2. Select Factory Reset
    3. Select Yes
    4. After the factory reset is complete, you must restart your phone for it to take full effect.

Q5: I just downloaded EFS, and my antivirus tells me there's this trojan virus, what gives?
A5: No need to worry, its a false positive, for those that don't know what it means, to put it simply, its when an antivirus wrongly labels a file as a virus when it is not.
