Requirements:

    * Latest BitPim software from www.bitpim.org (tested with 1.0.5)
    * LG phone tools software (http://www.lg-vu.com/index.php/topic,689.0.html)
    * USB cable

Instructions:

   1. Install software listed above
   2. Hook up phone in Data Service mode.
   3. Launch BitPim
   4. BitPim should show "Other CDMA phone on COMx" (where x is the COM port being used)
   5. Choose Edit, Settings
   6. Change Phone Type to "LG-VX8700" (this is the CDMA version Vu)
   7. Click OK to close
   8. Choose View, View Filesystem
   9. Click the Filesystem icon
  10. Click the expand button beside "/"
  11. It will say "Retrieving" for a minute or two
  12. Expand to the following directory: /LGAPP/Media/Flash
  13. Right Click on the Flash folder and choose "Backup Directory."
  14. After it creates a zip file extract it to a folder of your choosing.
  15. Copy all of the T2 swf and xml files to a separate directory.  Make sure you still have a backup of all the original files.  Keep these seperate at all times.
  16. In your new T2 directory rename all the T2 files to T1 files (eg T2_menu.swf becomes T1_menu.swf)
  17. In BitPim right click on Flash and choose "New File."  Choose the newly renamed T1_menu.swf.
18 . Repeat step 17 for EACH of the other renamed T1 files (they should all be xml files).
  19. Close BitPim, disconnect you phone and restart it.

You now should have the entertainment icon instead of the Mobile TV icon.  Mobile TV is still on you phone, but now you don't have to look at that damn icon you will never use.  Smiley

Note:  Mobile TV will still be on your phone, but you WILL NOT be able to access it.  Don't do this unless you, like me, had no desire to use it.  You can reverse this by going through steps 17-19 with the backup copies of your original T1 files.

Sounds good.  Once I get my USB in the mail I'll be sure to do this.

Thanks for your time to figure out how to do it.

Does this also remove the stupid orange dot icon from the top of the home screen as well?

I can confirm that this method does work. I took the additional step of renaming the original T1 files to T2 and placing those on the phone. In case something were to happen to my PC, all of the original files that came with my phone will still be on it, and it would just be a matter of swapping the file names in order to restore the phone's original files (i.e. change T1->T2 and T2->T1)

Unfortunately, no.  That just shows that you have TV signal.  I'm guessing you started the Mobile TV demo?  I haven't figured out how to get that off.

Good call!

Here's a basic pic of the menu:

does the entertainment button work?

Yes it does.  This also takes out the TV button in the entertainment menu.  It's simply the menu for the 915.  I just found the files on the phone.

Sweet, I actually use that category a fair amount, so that is cool.

I don't have a orange tv icon by default on my phone (the small tv icon that appears up top).  It only appears when I bother to use the tv, but otherwise, that small orange thing is not there.

Yeah.  If you want to use tv don't put this menu on.  You can't access it.  I was just constantly telling people not to push that button and trying to avoid it myself.

^  That I do not know.  It doesn't really bother me, but i know a lot of people would be happy if a way was found to remove it.
